Vyvian is deeply connected to the place in which she lives and creates - on Dharawal country in Wombarra, NSW. Her works speak to the looming escarpment, the ever changing ocean and most recently are celebrations and lamentations for the fragility of the landscape as a result of extreme climate. She is seduced by light – the way it plays on the land and the sea. Essentially her work responds to the ephemeral movements of light and texture over surfaces – vistas large and small, inside and out….liquid seas, industrial scenes, dreams and memories.

Vyvian Wilson CV
In 1980 Vyvian completed a Diploma of Visual Arts, majoring in painting at Alexander Mackie Collage of Advanced Education. Wilson later undertook a conversion course at City Art Institute and was awarded a BA Visual Arts in 1984. Other academic studies included Fine Arts, English Literature and Italian at the University of Sydney.
In 2009, after a long career diversion in arts administration with the Australia Council, Sydney Dance Company and Legs on the Wall, Vyvian made the commitment to be a full time artist, presenting her first solo show Finding Place in 2011. The positive response to this show encouraged her to continue navigating this difficult and exhilarating journey with several more solo and group exhibitions, most recently as a finalist in the 2021 FLOW National Contemporary Watercolour Art Prize, the 2022 John Leslie Art Prize for landscape, the 2022 Lake Art Prize and the 2022 Maritime Art Prize. Her solo exhibition Periphery was selected as the launch event for the 2019 Koroni International Arts Festival in Greece.
Vyvian has been invited to participate in several curated group exhibitions including Local Current 2013 and Steel City 2016 at the Wollongong Art Gallery, Unfolding at the Nan Tien Institute Wollongong 2012 and the showcase exhibition Out of the Illawarra at NSW Parliament House 2015. Vyvian is an active member of the Clifton School of Arts and served as Secretary and Vice President of the Illawarra Association for the Visual Arts from 2012 – 2014.
Vyvian’s work is included in several national and international private and public collections including the Wollongong City Art Gallery.
